Founded in 2014 by Massachusetts resident Johnathan Kirkland, Raindrop Liquor Distributor LLC was born from a vision to introduce exceptional alcoholic beverages and distilled spirits from around the world to the U.S. market. Guided by a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, culture, and quality, Johnathan assembled a small, trusted team to help bring this vision to life.
In pursuit of a spirit that reflected authenticity and heritage, one team member traveled to Africa to source a distinctive rum. After extensive tastings and careful selection, a remarkable spirit was discovered off the west coast of Africa on the Cape Verdean island of Santo Antão. This traditional Rum Ponche, a pure grogue crafted from sugarcane with no added preservatives-stood out for its integrity, flavor, and deep cultural roots.
The spirit was shipped to the United States, where Johnathan personally oversaw the bottling, labeling, and presentation, resulting in the creation of Black Ice Rum. This moment marked not just the launch of a product, but the beginning of a company rooted in global heritage, craftsmanship, and pride of ownership.
As Raindrop grew, its mission expanded beyond importing to include wholesale distribution, establishing a vertically integrated business model and laying the foundation for long-term growth.
